Corrections Policy

JotRipple aims to publish practical information that is accurate, clear, and useful. Despite careful research and review, mistakes can occasionally occur, sources can change, and previously accurate information can become outdated.

When we identify a meaningful error, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently rather than leave inaccurate or misleading information online.

What We Consider a Correction

A correction may be needed when an article contains a substantive error that could change how a reader understands or uses the information.

Examples include:

  • an incorrect measurement or dimension;
  • a mathematical or unit-conversion error;
  • a factual statement that is no longer accurate;
  • a manufacturer specification that has changed;
  • a source that no longer supports the claim for which it was cited;
  • language that materially overstates a recommendation or requirement;
  • a misleading comparison or conclusion;
  • an important omission that changes the practical meaning of the article.

Minor Edits

Not every change requires a formal correction notice.

We may make minor edits without a correction note when the change does not alter the factual meaning of the article.

Examples include:

  • spelling or grammar corrections;
  • punctuation changes;
  • formatting improvements;
  • clarifying awkward wording without changing the underlying information;
  • repairing a broken internal link;
  • improving image alt text;
  • small layout or accessibility improvements.

Substantive Corrections

When an error materially affects the accuracy or meaning of an article, we may revise the relevant section and, when appropriate, add a correction or update note.

The note may explain:

  • what information was incorrect;
  • what was changed;
  • why the change was necessary;
  • when the correction was made.

The exact level of detail depends on the significance of the error.

How We Review Reported Errors

When a reader reports a possible error, we review the specific claim rather than automatically changing the article.

The review may include:

  • checking the original source;
  • reviewing current manufacturer documentation;
  • recalculating measurements or examples;
  • checking whether the information varies by product or situation;
  • comparing reliable sources when guidance differs;
  • reviewing the wording to determine whether the problem is factual or simply unclear.

If the existing information remains supported, we may leave the article unchanged. If the report identifies a genuine problem, we will update the content as appropriate.

Corrections to Measurements and Calculations

Because many JotRipple guides involve room dimensions, furniture sizes, clearances, and calculations, numerical errors receive particular attention.

If a calculation is incorrect, we aim to correct both:

  • the calculation itself; and
  • any recommendation or conclusion that depended on that calculation.

For example, correcting a room-width calculation may also require revising the suggested furniture size or clearance described later in the article.

Outdated Information

Some articles can become outdated even when the original information was correct when published.

This may happen when:

  • a manufacturer changes product dimensions or instructions;
  • a retailer updates its sizing guidance;
  • a referenced standard or rule changes;
  • an external source is removed or replaced;
  • new information materially changes the best answer.

When we identify outdated information, we may update the article and its sources to reflect the current information available.

Article Updates vs. Corrections

An update is not always the same as a correction.

An article may be updated to:

  • add a clearer example;
  • include a new diagram;
  • improve the article structure;
  • replace an outdated source;
  • add relevant context;
  • reflect new manufacturer information.

If the earlier information was not wrong, the change may be treated simply as an update rather than a correction.

Published and Updated Dates

Where JotRipple displays publication or review dates, we aim to use them meaningfully.

We do not intend to change an article’s date solely to make unchanged content appear newer.

An updated or reviewed date should generally reflect a meaningful review, correction, or content improvement.

Source Corrections

If a cited source becomes unavailable, changes substantially, or no longer supports the statement for which it was referenced, we may:

  • replace the source with a more appropriate one;
  • update the factual statement;
  • remove the unsupported claim;
  • rewrite the relevant section for accuracy.

A broken link alone does not necessarily mean the underlying information is incorrect, but important factual claims should remain supportable.

Reader-Submitted Corrections

We welcome specific and constructive correction reports from readers.

If you believe something on JotRipple is incorrect, please include:

  • the URL of the article;
  • the exact statement, number, or section you believe is wrong;
  • a brief explanation of the issue;
  • a reliable supporting source, if available.

You can submit a correction request through our Contact page.

What We Do Not Treat as a Correction

Not every disagreement means an article contains an error.

Some JotRipple topics involve practical recommendations rather than fixed rules. Readers, manufacturers, and designers may reasonably prefer different approaches.

For example, two sources may recommend slightly different furniture clearances or curtain placements without either being factually wrong.

In these situations, we may clarify that multiple reasonable approaches exist rather than replacing one recommendation with another.

Editorial Independence

Corrections are based on accuracy, not commercial pressure.

An advertiser, sponsor, manufacturer, or other third party should not be able to remove accurate information simply because it is inconvenient or unfavorable.

Likewise, we may correct inaccurate information about a product, company, or service when reliable evidence shows that a change is necessary.
